Lee Saxell
Registered Midwife, Co-Director of SCBP, Clinical Faculty, UBC Midwifery
Lee trained as a midwife in the early 1980s, completed a Masters program in Midwifery Research in the UK in 1994, and has been a practicing midwife for over 30 years. She is the founding visionary member, along with the late Dr. Sue Harris, of the South Community Birth Program and is the Co-Director of SCBP, along with Kiran. She is a Clinical Associate Professor for the Division of Midwifery in the Department of Family Practice at UBC and was formerly a faculty member of the program. She was the Head of Midwifery at BC Women’s and St Paul’s hospitals for 8 years; in 2009 this torch was passed to Linda Knox! She is a second generation Vancouver-ite and has two grown children, Maya and Joel, and a loyal dog, Sally. Her passion is traveling the world and the last few years she has traveled to NYC, Palm Springs, Kenya, Tanzania, Prague, Berlin, London, Paris, Greece, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Mexico!
Along with other members of the team she is planning to attend the International Congress of Midwives in Bali, Indonesia in 2020.
