Sarah Jane Swartz
MA, RCC, Registered Clinical Counselor
Hello, everyone! My name is Sarah Jane Swartz. I will be joining South Community Birth Program and South Hill Family Centre as a counselling student in order to complete my Master of Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University. I will be supervised from May 2022 to December 2022 by Danielle Schroeder, RCC. I am thrilled to complete my practicum here, because it is an honour to be back with this amazing team; I was a midwife here several years ago. As a midwife since 2006, I have witnessed and helped families through the emotional ups and downs of pregnancy and parenting. I want to provide the level of mental health support that these clients need and want, which encouraged me to shift from midwifery to counselling. I am currently a counsellor at clinics that provide services for pregnancy loss, genetic terminations, and abortions, where I am very grateful to be a part of the healing and empowering processes for these clients. For my clients, I commit to providing non-judgemental, empathetic support, and guidance. I like to explore how physiology, childhood, past experiences, cultural values, beliefs, and current needs shape your concerns and well-being. I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families. I hope to be seen as an ally to all cultures, orientations, and identities. I look forward to helping clients through a variety of concerns. In my personal life, I am kept busy with my two sons; it seems our life revolves around football, figuring out the world of online video games, and preteen emotions. To keep myself balanced, I enjoy baking, sewing, running (my kids call it “a slow jog”), and anything that makes me laugh (which lately is our clumsy puppy). I truly look forward to working with you!
