Lene Gulbaek-Pearce
Registered Midwife
Lene (Lana) is a Canadian born, New Zealand trained midwife.
Originally from Saskatchewan, Lene became interested in women’s health after working as a birth doula while completing her bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Regina. After completion, she had the opportunity to volunteer at a birthing centre in Indonesia in 2015 and shortly after, in 2017, relocated to New Zealand to pursue midwifery. Lene graduated from the Auckland University of Technology in 2020 and began her practice in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
With a particular passion for serving marginalized communities, Lene has worked extensively with BIPOC and new immigrant families, fostering trust and advocating for equitable care in an often-overwhelming healthcare system. Over the years, she has worked with hundreds of families, supporting birthing people through every step of their journey with respect, empowerment, and personalized care.
Following the birth of her own daughter in 2022, Lene moved back to Canada and completed the Internationally Educated Midwives Bridging Program (IEMBP) through UBC to begin her practice in BC.
Lene now lives in North Vancouver with her husband and two-year-old daughter. When she’s not working you can find her spending time (usually outside!) with her family, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, and planning the next family trip!
Lene is thrilled to be part of South Community Birth Program and looks forward to connecting with and supporting your growing family.
