Lena first became enthralled by birth as a young child, standing by as closely as she was allowed while her mother provided perinatal care to local Vancouver families as a GP. This sometimes included attending home births, as her mothers pioneering work included supporting midwives toward becoming registered in BC.
After receiving a BA in the social sciences, Lena's early adulthood focused more on world & mountain adventure. The adventuring continued through her midwifery training, which saw her helping birthing families from Texas, to Ethiopia, to Ontario. She became a registered midwife in Canada in 2008, and soon returned home to practice with SCBP for many years before joining a homebirth practice for another decade. In 2022, due to their love of wilderness adventure, she and her partner & young son moved to Squamish, & Lena happily returned to working with SCBP part time. She is continually humbled by the strength of birthing women while serving this diverse community of SCBP families through their birthing experiences.
