Registered Midwife - Team Member in Haida Gwaii
I am a Registered Midwife who has happily come to work at South Community Birth program periodically throughout the last 5 years. I am a resident of Haida Gwaii, a group of islands of the north west coast of BC, where I have lived for 25 years. I have a solo midwifery practice on the north end of the island in Old Masset where I work out of the Haida Health Centre. In 2013, I graduated from the UBC Midwifery Program and I am passionate about midwifery that supports families with a diversity of backgrounds and needs. I am strongly committed to supporting the growth and development of holistic midwifery models in Indigenous rural and remote locations in BC. As a student, I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Uganda to learn and work with the midwives in a small hospital setting in Jinja and Mbale. Recently, I traveled with a group to Guatemala to assist with teaching emergency obstetrical skills to groups of Indigenous midwives. I am a mother to three rapidly growing teens, Ravi, Cora and Lumina. When I am not caring for families, I enjoy kayaking, gardening, boating, food gathering, and spending time on the beach and in the forest with my family and friends. Because my practice is small on Haida Gwaii, I am very thankful to have the opportunity to work as locum with the amazing team at South!
